Inspired by the French playwright and activist Olympe de Gouges, this timely shape is reminiscent of elegant Toile de Jouy boudoirs of 19th century France. This shape is highly versatile in its elegant form and is more subtle when the fabric is stretched taut over the frame or more defined when there is a pipe or trim to accentuate the hipped shape.

Ensemblier was founded on the concept of providing good designs to a retail market. Inspiration was sought from a variety of places from references in the V&A art library reading room, to picture frames and tombstones. Pivotal to our initial of ‘good design’ of elegant, thoughtful proportions, was to support traditional highly skilled craftsman and use traditional, natural, sustainable materials. All our headboards are custom made to our clients’ requirements.
The frames are solid beech, dwell jointed, made either “wall hung" with a mattress slip or “to the floor” with a cut out to accommodate for skirting. Being of frame construction rather than board with a foam interior as so many of our competitors are, the frames are traditionally webbed with rubberised hair, cotton bumpf and calico.
Our entirely bespoke Atelier headboards are loose hair with lambs wool skin wadding. Our headboards are designed and manufactured to last a lifetime and beyond, in that they can be recovered, and will not crumble in 8 years, like the toxic chemicals of foam.
All our headboards carry an embossed and numbered Ensemblier brass tag, to ensure authenticity, and are encased in a protective calico travel bag for storage and transportation.
